3 of 3 | Posted by: Ulrich Koenig - Greenwood, IN Curtis Matter, age 90 of West Lafayette, formerly of Anderson, IN, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at his residence. Born May 18, 1921 in Aurora, IL, he was the son of the late Percival J. and Jeanette Loutwein Matter. Robert earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Illinois and his Masters degree from Ball State University.

His marriage was to Elizabeth M. Cobb in 1943 in Kewanee, IL and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2010.

Mr. Matter was a Process Engineer for General Motors for 39 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Anderson where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the American Society for Metals, a founding member of Toastmasters International, volunteered as a Red Coat at the Anderson Community Hospital, owned 7 industrial patents, and was a morning radio personality on WCBC known as "Red Robin Bob". His hobbies included electronics, sailing, stain glass, astronomy, philosophy, reading, writing poetry, and planning skits and theatrical skit designing.

Surviving are two children, Robert B. Matter (wife, Mary Sue) of Greenfield and Kathryn Matter of Lafayette; two sisters Sherry Bice (husband, Kenneth) of Gurley, Alabama and Joan Jones (husband, Charles) of Simi Valley, CA. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Emily Matter Orr (husband, Ryan) and Robert A. "Rob" Matter, and one great grandchild Riley J. Orr. He was preceded in death by a brother Daniel James Matter.

Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday with the service to follow at 11a.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Committal service to follow at 3 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Park in Anderson, IN.
